Position Overview
The Public Area Attendant is responsible for maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, presentation, and safety throughout all guest-accessible and staff public areas of the hotel.
This role requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, physical stamina, and a strong commitment to customer service. Public Area Attendants are entrusted with creating a clean, welcoming, and comfortable environment that enhances every guest’s experience from the moment they enter the hotel until the time they depart.
Working closely with the Housekeeping Department, Engineering Department, Front Office, Food and Beverage teams, and other operational departments, the Public Area Attendant ensures that all assigned areas consistently meet The Peninsula’s internationally recognized luxury standards.

Key Responsibilities
As a Public Area Attendant, you will be responsible for maintaining the appearance, cleanliness, and hygiene of all assigned public spaces while ensuring every guest enjoys a comfortable and welcoming environment.
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
– Maintain exceptional cleanliness standards throughout all hotel public areas.
– Clean hotel entrances, lobbies, reception areas, corridors, elevators, staircases, guest lounges, waiting areas, public washrooms, banquet areas, meeting rooms, restaurants, fitness facilities, and other designated locations.
– Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, polish, sanitize, and disinfect surfaces according to hotel operating procedures.
– Remove litter and waste promptly while maintaining an attractive appearance throughout all facilities.
– Clean windows, mirrors, glass partitions, decorative fixtures, lighting equipment, artwork displays, furniture, stainless steel surfaces, marble floors, wooden furnishings, and other decorative materials.
– Polish natural stone, brass, chrome, wood, and premium interior finishes using approved cleaning methods.
– Ensure public washrooms remain fully stocked with tissue paper, soap, paper towels, sanitizers, and other guest amenities.
– Conduct regular inspections of assigned areas to identify cleanliness issues before they affect guest satisfaction.
– Respond immediately to accidental spills, safety hazards, or emergency cleaning requests.
– Operate vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, carpet extraction machines, polishing equipment, pressure cleaning devices, and other housekeeping machinery safely and efficiently.
– Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance of cleaning equipment to ensure proper operation.
– Report equipment malfunctions or maintenance concerns to supervisors without delay.
– Store cleaning chemicals and equipment safely according to hotel policies and safety regulations.
– Follow all chemical handling procedures and occupational safety guidelines.
– Assist supervisors with scheduled deep-cleaning projects and seasonal maintenance programs.
– Support banquet operations by preparing function rooms before, during, and after events.
– Coordinate with the Engineering Department regarding repairs requiring immediate attention.
– Assist Front Office and Concierge teams by responding courteously to guest requests whenever required.
– Provide directions and basic information to guests in a professional and friendly manner.
– Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while working in guest areas.
– Follow departmental schedules and complete assigned duties efficiently.
– Participate in departmental meetings and training sessions.
– Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives designed to enhance operational efficiency.
– Comply with all company policies, hotel procedures, hygiene standards, and health and safety regulations.
– Perform additional duties assigned by supervisors or management to support hotel operations.
Candidate Requirements

Ideal candidates will possess the following qualifications:
Experience
– Minimum one year of relevant experience in housekeeping, commercial cleaning, facilities maintenance, or hospitality services.
– Previous experience in luxury hotels, international hotel chains, serviced apartments, hospitals, office buildings, shopping centres, or similar environments is highly desirable.
Language Skills
– Fluent Cantonese.
– Basic spoken English is considered an advantage.
– Ability to communicate effectively with guests and colleagues.
Technical Knowledge
– Knowledge of professional cleaning equipment and machinery.
– Understanding of cleaning chemicals and their safe usage.
– Familiarity with sanitation, hygiene, and infection control standards.
– Ability to identify maintenance issues requiring corrective action.
